Obituary – Sanford Yost, Jr.
It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Sanford Yost, Jr. on April 15th. Pappy, as he was affectionately known by all of us who dearly loved him, leaves behind a heartbroken immediate family which includes sons Ron Yost (Gary), Steve Yost (Sharon) and a daughter, Terri Gallagher (Terry). Pappy also will be missed by his extended family which includes three loving grandchildren Steve Yost, Jr., Erica Lindquist (Christopher), April Gallagher (Lindsey), great granddaughters Elise, Lilly, and Seyla, and a niece Angela Panzino. He is also survived by his sister Lucresia Batschelet.
Sanford experienced the difficult loss of his closet friend and love of his life, his wife Donna back on May 16, 2021 with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. The entire family loved getting together for cookouts at Grammy and Pappy’s pool. Sanford was a man of many passions. He was a proud, cheering fan at his grandchildren’s sporting events as well as his son Steve’s #3Y race car at the Clinton County Speedway. Those who knew him best knew him as perhaps the area’s most devoted Penn State fan.
After marrying the former Donna Patton whom he met while serving in the US Navy the two decided to move from to New Jersey and raise their family at 769 Prospect Avenue in Avis Pa. He was along time employee of Piper Aircraft until it’s closing after which he became the maintenance supervisor at the Lock Haven Gardens housing complex. He spent his last seven months as a resident of the Heartland Assisted Living Facility in Woolrich.
On behalf of our family, we would all love to extend our most heartfelt and deepest appreciation for all those loving caregivers who helped him live in his home as long as he could as well as the caring staff at Heartland. There were so many who worked so hard to make him comfortable as his life got a bit tougher over the past year or so. Sanford and Donna were very socially active loving to regularly entertain their friends and parties at their home in Avis, joining them at the Moose and Sons Clubs in Lock Haven. Pappy was extremely proud to tell everyone he knew that he wore purple and white and played football for his beloved Lock Haven Bobcats. We will miss Sanford, Pappy ..and Dad.
