PIAA AAA State Wrestling Championships (Photos Added)
HERSHEY – Wrestling action begins in earnest today for wrestlers in pursuit of a state title. The preliminary round is slated to begin at 4 p.m. this evening for the AAA division. North central Pennsylvania will be well represented in the tournament.
In all, Districts 4 and 6 have nearly two dozen wrestlers in action. Of the 42 wrestlers that qualified at the NW Regional last week to advance to Hershey, just over half, 23 in all, hail from our area of the state and are familiar names in local high school wrestling circles.
Central Mountain and Mifflin County lead the way with both schools taking five wrestlers to the tournament followed by Jersey Shore qualifying three. Altoona, Bald Eagle Area and Bellefonte each have two wrestlers in the mix, while Shikellamy, State College, Selinsgrove and Williamsport each have one wrestler in the hunt.
We will post results here as the become available for both districts. We wish the Wildcats and Bulldogs, along with all the other area schools best wishes in their endeavors at the Giant Center this week.
