Bargain hunters help Shoe Bank

LOCK HAVEN, PA —Owen Peters, age 9, of Mill Hall and his mother, Jamie Emel, recently donated lots of socks, books, crayons and pencils to the Shoe Bank.

The Shoe Bank is open this Saturday, Sept. 16, and will give eligible kids and teens free new shoes, new socks, books, and a small school-related gift — like these crayons or pencils. Everything is free.

Owen and his mom collected all this great loot on one of their treasure hunts to Dollar General stores. They like to chase the deep discounts, then donate their spoils to worthy causes. They have fun together and also contribute hundreds of dollars worth of food or other items to places that help the community.

The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank is inside Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven, and is generally open one Saturday a month, by appointment. It serves families who have Compass and who live in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin School area.

To book your time slot, text or call Diahann at 814-571-5324, any weekday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. If you can’t keep your appointment, please call to reschedule.

Funding is provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation, an M&T Bank grant, civic groups, churches, and individual donors.
