Downtown Lock Haven black boxes get beautified
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Sean Flanagan from Always a Good Sign out of West Berlin, NJ was at work at midweek in downtown Lock Haven, turning the big black traffic signal control boxes into something much more attractive.
Flanagan, a standout soccer player at Lock Haven University several decades ago (1991-94) brought his sign-making prowess to the downtown, carrying out the installation of new vinyl covers for the massive control panels placed about town a year ago.
Downtown Lock Haven Inc. Manager Kira Rosamilia was ecstatic Wednesday in describing the upgrade, what she called “turning lemons into lemonade.” A grant from the Clinton County Community Foundation funded the murals at three Main Street intersections, Jay, Grove, and Vesper.
Rosamilia noted the control panels had blocked the view of the nearby businesses and said the new coverings helped to beautify those locations. She said she was “very excited” to see the finished product going up.
She thanked the many “amazing committee members” involved in the process: Angela Harding, Sandy and Rich Bechdel, Joe Waltz, Jeff Brinker, Mayor Joel Long, Maria Parkinson Boileau, Brent-and Ashley Rippey, Mike Hoy, Brittany Brown and Hanna Stover. “We had a great committee from different departments throughout the city. Including the City of Lock Haven, The Station Gallery Arts Council, art teachers, Clinton County Government, and businesses on Main Street.” She offered a special thank you to the Clinton County Community Foundation and Always a Good Sign.
