Alyssa Fisher AMCC Player of the Week

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona softball swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s weekly awards, as the league office announced on Monday afternoon that senior middle infielder Alyssa Fisher (Lock Haven, PA/Central Mountain) was its Player of the Week and sophomore right-handed pitcher Josselyn Nau (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) was its Pitcher of the Week.

Fisher and Nau helped lead the Lions through a 4-0 week of AMCC play that consisted of doubleheader sweeps over La Roche University and Alfred State College.

In the Lions’ home sweep of La Roche last Tuesday, April 1, Fisher combined to hit 3-for-6 with four runs scored, one double, one RBI, and one stolen base. On Friday, April 4, in a road sweep of Alfred State, she went 6-for-8 with five RBI, four runs scored, three doubles, two stolen bases, and one triple.

On the week, Fisher batted .643 (9-for-14) with eight runs scored, six RBI, four doubles, three stolen bases, one triple, and one walk.

Nau pitched a complete game in game one of Tuesday’s home doubleheader with La Roche and held the Redhawks to three runs while securing the win. The sophomore tossed a scoreless final inning in game two, protecting the lead and recording the save. In game one at Alfred State on Friday, Nau pitched another complete game, blanking the Pioneers across five innings of work to earn the victory. She pitched two scoreless innings in relief in game two and got the win as the Lions rallied to victory.

On the week, Nau pitched 14 innings, had a 1.50 earned run average and 0.86 WHIP, and struck out nine batters. She compiled a 3-0 record with one save.

Penn State Altoona softball is 14-8 overall this season, including a 4-0 record within the AMCC. The Lions continue their schedule at home on Wednesday, April 9, when they host conference opponent Carlow University for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
