Democrats celebrate Earth Day with cleanup, candidates and picnic

LOCKPORT, PA – Dozens of locals gathered to celebrate Earth Day in Clinton County last Saturday. Members of the Clinton County Democratic Committee and allies participated in a roadside cleanup in the morning and then held a pizza party at Riverview Park.

More than 50 area Democrats turned out for the pizza party, where speakers included Deborah Kunselman, candidate for PA Supreme Court, who spoke about how important this election is for the courts.

Angela Harding, incumbent/candidate for Clinton County Commissioner asked voters to support her and also write-in Joan Heller for Democratic County Commissioner in the Primary Election.

Michelle Crowell, incumbent/candidate for Clinton County Auditor; Joel Long; incumbent/candidate for Lock Haven City Mayor; Tami Brannan, candidate for Lock Haven City Council; School board candidates Mary Ann Clark for Keystone Central School Board Region I and Rick Schulze, for Keystone Central School Board Region VIII also spoke.

In addition to hearing from candidates, attendees enjoyed informational exhibits presented by SPARK and Citizens Climate Lobby, a silent auction, and a spread of potluck desserts. The group also celebrated the 79th birthday of Dan Reeder, immediate past Clinton County Democratic State Committeeman.

The CCDC adopted a 2-mile stretch of the Island Road in 2018 through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program. The group holds two cleanups each year.

“With Earth Day taking place on a Saturday this year, we felt it was a perfect opportunity to include a special addition to our usual spring cleanup,” said William Mincer, CCDC Chairman. “Special thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the festivities and celebrate our earth!”
