LOCK HAVEN – Roadway improvement work on Route 220 near Lock Haven will come to a winter halt soon, as lane restrictions are lifted. Since late September crews have been making repairs that will improve the ride quality of the roadway surface and extend the useful life of the pavement. The work is funded by Act 89, the state’s new transportation plan.
Dependent on weather, PennDOT was expected to lift northbound and southbound lane restrictions on Route 220 between the McElhatten and Pine Creek exits at midweek. Should cold weather impact the schedule, the lane restrictions will be lifted on Thursday. Daylight work will continue as weather permits, with crews also working on Saturdays, if necessary.

Toward mid-December, PennDOT expects to lift northbound and southbound lane restrictions on Route 220 in the area around the Lock Haven exit.

HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $16.9 million project, which is expected to run through the 2015 construction season.

Overall work will address approximately 7.5 miles of roadway around the Lock Haven area and includes patching and overlay, along with bridge repairs. Other work includes guide rail updates, shoulder improvements, strip seal dams and miscellaneous items. The contract will also address improvements on a small section of Route 477 (Long Run Road) near Salona and a small section of Route 2015 (Mill Hall Road) near Mill Hall.

Meanwhile preliminary work continues on Route 220 in Lamar Township in the vicinity of Auction and Fairground Roads. That project is to be finalized next year.
