Keystone 10s hold off Montoursville, 16-11

BALLS MILLS, PA – It was a blowout until it wasn’t a blowout for the Keystone 10 All-Stars on Thursday, opening a 14-0 lead, then letting Montoursville back into the game, then pulling away for a 16-11 victory in a District 12 winners’ bracket semifinal.

The win moved Manager Tony Miller’s team into the district title game scheduled for Monday in South Williamsport, the opponent Williamsport, an 8-4 winner over Montgomery on Thursday.

Keystone opened a 14-0 lead and was close to a mercy-rule win when Montour scored seven runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to cut the Keystone lead to 14-11. Keystone answered with two runs in the top of the sixth and went home with the 16-11 win.

There was plenty of offense, Keystone with 13 hits, led by Brad Brungard’s 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Brooks Warner, Cooper Strouse and Carter Miller each had two-hit evenings and single hits came from Mack Packer, Colt Hill, Giovanni Cej and Rylin Bathurst. Chase Karstetter had an 0-for-2 game but walked three times and scored four runs.

Keystone used five pitchers, Miller with three innings of shutout, one-hit ball to start and Mack Packer with 1.1 shutout innings to finish up. Both teams struggled defensively, each with six errors.
