RENOVO – Dignitaries from all over Clinton County headed west Friday for the official opening of the new district court office in Renovo. Two judges and a county commissioner, wielding scissors, snipped the ceremonial blue ribbon that graced the steps of the newly opened office.

Clinton County President Judge Craig Miller, along with county commissioner Joel Long and district justice Frank Mills were the official ribbon cutters. They thanked the staff and everyone involved with the long-awaited opening.

County commissioner Jeff Snyder on the other hand, held a different view. “In my mind it was the project from hell,” he said, adding that it will always be so in his mind. His feelings are understandable. During the years prior to the purchase of the building the county had considered other options, including building a new structure and the renovation of another, both options with projected price tags in the half million dollar range.

At one point the county purchased a property along Route 120, the site of one of the costly renovation projects.

Based on some of the cost projections, Snyder said the county saved $268,949.07 by purchasing the Ninth and Erie property. He said the savings will be even more when the county sells a lot it owns. And the county has already sold the former district justice office on Third Street in Renovo for $30,000, accepting a recent bid for that property.
