Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
Have you ever been mistaken for someone else? I’m sure it’s happened to most of us.
A patient showed up at a medical office and asked the receptionist, “You’re Mary, aren’t you?”
The receptionist smiled and said,” no, sorry, I’m not.”
“Are you sure?” the patient responded.” you look like just like someone I know named Mary.”
“Well,” the receptionist replied,” I hope she’s young and skinny.”
“No,” he said,” she looks like you.”
It was David’s desire to say behold the Lord’s face. He would be satisfied in that in that day to awake with his likeness in glory. (Psalm 17: 15)
That is what John wrote about his first epistle. Even though we are now the children of God. It does not yet appear to us what we are going to be. But we do know that “we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (I John 3:2).
Yes, we are going to be like the Lord when we get to be with him in heaven. But even now we are being changed more and more into his image by the word of God and the Spirit of God. (II Corinthians 3:18)
“Oh, to be like thee! Blessed Redeemer, this is my constant longing and prayer. Gladly I’ll forfeit all the Earth’s treasures, Jesus, thy perfect likeness to wear. “
