Optimist’s Roundtable
By Martha Sykes
Some of you may be familiar with the phrase,
“All creatures great and small, the Lord God made them all,” which is part of the hymn, “All Things Bright and Beautiful” written by Cecil Frances Alexander. The words in this hymn remind us about the beauty and wonder of God‘s creation and makes us realize the true diversity of creatures that are all made by Him in creation, from the tiniest to the largest.
While many of us take for granted living in this beautiful area of the world, we are sometimes reminded of how blessed we are when we meet people from out of the area. We have many travelers who come from many different places to enjoy our “country” life. Those who live in the city, come here to enjoy the hiking and the biking trails and to travel through our dirt roads on ATVs or dirt bikes, and they can’t say enough about the beauty of our mountains!
Speaking of great and small, we are now hearing the loud cacophony of sounds coming from the locusts . My yard has been invaded by many of them and when I look closely at them, they are amazing creatures. Well, I guess a person has to like bugs, but we do have to try to remember that God did make them all, great and small and they are only here for a short time, but how do they know to return every 17 years? Only God knows.
This upcoming weekend we will be hosting many people on their ATVs for our Relay for Life event so make our visitors feel welcome. They all love being a part of this great time in our area when we work together to find a cure for cancer!!
