KCSD: Another no-tax hike budget in the offing

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Keystone Central School District is looking at a second straight year without a local tax increase.

School district officials unveiled a proposed 2021-22 budget at Thursday night’s school board work session. It amounts to $82.987 million and keeps taxes unchanged for a second year in a row.

The district covers parts of three counties and the proposed real estate millage in each remains the same as this school year: Clinton County, 13.35 mills; Centre County, 44.44 mills; Potter County, 46.24 mills. As proposed, the district earned income and net profits tax will remain at 1 percent.

A first vote on the proposal is planned for the board’s May 13 voting session with final adoption at its June meeting. Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin and Business Manager Susan Blesh had indicated earlier this calendar year they were working towards a no-tax hike budget for next year. The district had seen a three year run of annual real estate tax increases until the current school year which began on July 1, 2020 with no increase.

Also Thursday night, the board heard a presentation on a new Keystone Camp for students this summer. The district followed that up Friday with a release on the camp set-up from Megan Hull, Director of Curriculum and Innovation:

Keystone Central School District will be hosting Keystone Camp for students who are currently enrolled in Kindergarten through 12th grade from July 12 – August 12 at three locations across the district.   Renovo Elementary will house students from Renovo Elementary and Bucktail High School.  K-8 students who attend Robb, Woodward, Mill Hall, Liberty Curtin and Central Mountain Middle School will attend Keystone Camp at Robb Elementary. Students in 9-12 grade who normally attend CMHS will attend CMHS. Transportation will be provided for all students.

Keystone Camp will be held Monday through Thursday weekly from 8:15am until noon.  A FREE breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students attending the camp.

The purpose of Keystone Camp is to provide K-12 students with a safe and fun learning environment for several weeks over the summer in order to maintain educational consistency for students.  Keystone Camp will focus on the whole child, and will include social and emotional lessons as well as an academic component.  For students in grades 9-12, the focus will be on credit recovery.

Information and applications for K-8 students are now live!  Applications are due May 21.  Acceptance into Keystone Camp will be determined based on student need. Students in grades 9-12 do not need to apply; invitations for high school students who are in need of credit recovery will be forthcoming. We can’t wait to see you at Keystone Camp!
