LHU Baseball splits with Mansfield at home
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven baseball team’s (8-31, 5-21 PSAC East) offense powered the Bald Eagles to an 11-7 victory in game one of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at home against Mansfield (14-26, 7-19 PSAC East) to earn a split on the day (Friday, April 26). The Bald Eagles dropped game two, 5-0.
Today’s games in Lock Haven also marked The Haven’s annual Sexual Assault Awareness games.
Game 1 Recap: Lock Haven 11, Mansfield 7
In game one, the Bald Eagles struck for 11 runs on 13 hits, while putting up seven runs in the second inning to outduel the Mounties in a high-scoring affair.
After Mansfield struck for three runs to open the game, the Bald Eagles countered for seven runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
Mansfield plated two in the top of the third, but Lock Haven erased those runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 9-5.
The Mounties rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, but Lock Haven once again had the answer and scored twice, before recording the final six outs to win 11-7.
Bald Eagle starter Garrett Starr (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) was charged with three earned runs in four innings of work, while striking out four hitters to earn his third victory of the season.
Nine different players secured a hit for Lock Haven, who finished with a game-high 13 in the game, including three for extra bases.
Francisco Taveras (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg), Lance Baldensperger (Warren, Pa./Warren), Jaxson Pupo (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) and Dante Bruno (Telford, Pa/Souderton Area) all finished with two hits. Joseph DeSiena (Jacksonville, Fla./Atlantic Coast), Bruno and Pupo all drove in multiple runs, led by a game-high three RBI by Pupo, who doubled twice.
Game 2 Recap: Mansfield 5, Lock Haven 0
Mansfield scored five runs over five innings and held the Bald Eagles off the scoreboard to earn a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.
Lock Haven totaled four hits in game two.
Will Stambaugh (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff ) tossed the complete game for the Bald Eagles, allowing four earned runs.
