Track & Field competes at Penn Relays; Haven men set school record in SMR
LOCK HAVEN– Several members of the Lock Haven men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams were in action today (Friday, April 26) at the 2024 Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
The Haven men reset the school record in the sprint medley relay (SMR) and Peter Bellomo (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) turned in another notable individual effort in the men’s javelin.
Bellomo threw 196-05 (59.88m) in the men’s college javelin competition and finished sixth of 22. The mark surpassed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (52.00m) and NCAA Division II (58.47m) championship qualifying standards.
Kwame Whitaker Jr. (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland), Michael Lawrence (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), Ryan Miller (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) and Morgan Gavitt (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) ran 3:28.61 in the SMR (200m, 200m, 400m, 800m) and finished 14th of 20. They edged out a school record (2:28.81) that was set earlier this season at the Colonial Relays.
In the 4×200-meter relay, Lock Haven ran 1:28.77 and nearly broke a school record there as well.
The Haven men also ran 3:22.15 and finished eighth to qualify for tomorrow’s (Sat.) finals in the Men’s College Eastern 4×400-meter relay division.
The Haven women competed in the 4×4 today and ran 4:08.38 in the Eastern College Division.
The Penn Relays is the oldest, and one of the largest meets each year in the United States and is held at historic Franklin Field at the University of the Pennsylvania.
