George S. Labant, Jr. – Obituary

CROSS FORK – On April 16, George passed from this in Coudersport with his family at his side.

Born July 30, 1937 George was the son of the late Isola Dillion and the late George Labant Sr. and was a lifelong resident of Cross Fork. George received the Remembrance of the First Holy Communion on May 26, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He attended both St. Joseph Catholic School and the Cross Fork School.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1960-1962 and received many awards during his tour of duty and was discharged with outstanding recommendations to enter the workforce.

George was a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies and traveled throughout the United States operating equipment. In 1975 he started his own business “Let George Do It” an excavation and septic pumping business.

George married Helen Probst , January 16,1960 at the Assembly of God Church with the Reverend Jack Bremingen. George and Helen are richly blessed with a son, Danny (Julie) Labant of Galeton and Alaska and a daughter, Diane (Bruce) Montgomery of Oregon, one granddaughter, Rachel Labant, and step-granddaughter, Macy Montgomery both of Oregon. In addition to his spouse and children, George is survived by one brother Thomas (Mary Jane) Labant of Clasbash, NC. He was predeceased by one brother, C. Joseph Labant in addition to his parents.

George was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He made several adventurous trips to Wyoming for big game hunting and fishing. Working was a big part of his life which he enjoyed into his later years working on many interesting projects throughout the state. His most recent adventure was a cross country journey with his son to their cabin in Alaska. He was a member of the Galeton Masonic Lodge 602 of Galeton, PA, American Legion of Renovo, Kettle Creek Hose Company and Ambulance Association, the American Trappers Association, Cross Fork Sportsman’s Club and IUOE Local 66.

In his retirement George enjoyed watching western movies, feeding and watching the birds and visiting with friends.

Keeping with George’s wishes there will be no services. Donations may be made in his memory to the Cross Fork Sportsman’s Club or the charity of your choice.
