CENTRAL MOUNTAIN TRACK & FIELD TEAMS FINISH FIFTH AT DISTRICT VI CHAMPIONSHIPS
ALTOONA-At the District VI Track and Field Championships on Thursday, Central Mountain’s girls squad amassed 56 points to earn a fifth-place finish. Freshman standout Macia Owens was the star of the day, storming to the 100-meter hurdles title in 16.28 seconds and punching her ticket to the PIAA State Championships at Shippensburg on May 23–24. Owens wasn’t done there—she teamed with Jocelyn Wiseman, Macy Plowman and Sarah Hall to snag bronze in the 4×100-meter relay, crossing the line in 50.61.
Wiseman also claimed silver in the 100-meter hurdles (16.42), while Hall rounded out the hurdles podium with bronze (16.63). In the 300-meter hurdles, Wiseman added another medal with a third-place finish in 49.04 seconds, and Owens contributed a strong showing in seventh (52.71). Plowman showcased her range by earning bronze in the 200-meter dash (26.38), and Grace Keohane battled to sixth in the 800 (2:23.45). On the field, Alex Castillo’s javelin toss of 92 feet, 6 inches secured eighth place, and Lillian Downing cleared 4-9 to finish seventh in the high jump. The 4×400 relay team of Camryn Bair, Plowman, Vivian Wilt and Keohane ran to a respectable fifth in 4:17.34, capping a day of personal-best performances across the roster.
The boys followed suit with a fifth-place team finish, scoring 60 points on day two. Senior Sam Wible will join Owens at state after dazzling in the 400-meter dash—his 49.92 not only set a new personal best and school record but also met the state-qualifying standard. Wible added a bronze in the 200 (22.71), showcasing his sprint prowess. In the throws, Cooper Bottorf hurled the discus 150-4 to earn silver, and Jonathan Hughes finished fourth in the javelin at 159-10. The Wildcats collected more points in the jumps: Billy Newman soared to second in the high jump (5-9), while Bryce Warren also cleared 5-9 to place fourth on countback; Isaiah Brinker and Newman landed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the long jump. Central Mountain’s relays continued the momentum— the 4×800 quartet of Brody Rhine, Damien Winner, Aden Dupert and Xian Deems ran to fifth in 9:20.83, the 4×400 team of Rhine, Wyatt Heeman, Shayden Hill and Wible took sixth in 3:38.56, and the 4×100 unit rounded out the scoring in eighth (45.73).
