Martha Eckert Russell – Obituary
Martha Eckert Russell, 93, of Mill Hall, was welcomed into her heavenly home on Thursday, March 25, 2021.
Born in Lock Haven on October 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Vera Bartlett Eckert, Sr.
Martha was a 1945 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Lock Haven.
She was married to Robert H. Russell, who preceded her in death.
Martha began her working career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lock Haven Hospital when it was located on Susquehanna Avenue. She spent several years as an emergency room nurse and worked for over 30 years in local doctor offices. Following her retirement, she continued to serve as a private duty nurse.
Martha was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish of Lock Haven, attending St. Agnes Catholic Church. She displayed her devotion to her faith through her membership with the Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Agnes Faith Sharing Group.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a past member and Vice President of the Lock Haven Elk’s Lodge Auxiliary.
Martha was a longtime volunteer at Lock Haven Hospital and Lock Haven Extended Care. She was an avid reader and enjoyed going for walks around her neighborhood. Most of all, Martha cherished her time spent with her family.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Jackie) Russell of Lock Haven; a brother, James R. (Jane) Eckert of Milesburg; a sister, Margaret Eckert Dolan of Blanchard; a sister-in-law, Amy Eckert of New York; three grandchildren: Rance (Tasha) Russell, Reid (Susie) Woodward and Robin (Justin) Russell; seven great grandchildren: Dillon, Emily, Pierce “PJ,” Ashlyn and Logan Russell and Everet and Tyler Woodward; three great-great grandchildren: Oliver, Ember and River Woodward; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Pierce “PJ” Russell; a sister, Joanne Murray; a brother, Jack Eckert; and her brother-in-law, Clarence Dolan.
Per Martha’s wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
