Obituary – Louise E. Smith Kramer
Louise E. Smith Kramer, 91, formerly of Mackeyville, died on Feb. 26, 2025, in Easton, where she had lived with one of her sisters in a memory care facility for the past three years.
Born June 24, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Merril and Linnie (Bechdel) Smith. In 1944, the family moved to a farm near Mackeyville. She attended the Lamar Township School in Salona.
Louise was a graduate of Mill Hall High School (1952) and the Lock Haven State Teachers College (1956). She later completed post-graduate studies at Penn State University and Kutztown State College (1967). She became a charter member of the Beta Nu Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women Educators.
A longtime school librarian, Louise retired from the Keystone Central School District in 1986.
Her interests included reading and art.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the Walnut Street services in Lock Haven.
In addition to her parents, Louise was predeceased by her three brothers – Glenn, Harold, and David Smith – and one sister, Mary Eisenhower.
Two sisters survive: Ruth Berry, of Loganton, and Eleanor Jones, of Easton. Louise also is survived by four nieces, eight nephews, and their families.
Louise invested her life in caring for others and was loved and appreciated by family and friends. She was a role model to many, with tremendous internal fortitude combined with a quiet and gentle spirit.
Private services will be held at the convenience of her family. Interment is to be in the Baptist Cemetery in Blanchard.
