Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
Everyone who knew him thought that he was beyond hope. People said that he could never be won to the Lord; that there was no way he could ever become a Christian.
There were many who had given him the Gospel. There were many who had condemned him for his sins. There were many who had told him that he needed the Lord, but it had all been to no avail.
Then one day a man went to him and said, “My heart is burdened for you. After a sleepless night, at three o’clock this morning, my wife and I were still on our knees in prayer that you would be saved.” Then he turned and walked away.
It was just a few hours later when the couple heard a knock at their door. There stood that hardened sinner, who said to them: “I just can’t get those words out of my mind. When you told me that at three o’clock this morning you and your wife were still on your knees praying for me, it broke my heart.”
As he stood there, he said with a trembling voice, “God is answering your prayer. I want to be saved.”
What was it that made the difference in this man’s life? The answer is found in the Bible, where it says:
“And of some have compassion, making a difference” (Jude. 22).
