Sourdough and Smiles Fill the Renovo Library During Weekend Workshop

By Kevin Rauch

The Renovo Area Public Library looked more like a bakery on Saturday morning as thirty people showed up to learn everything that they need to become accomplished sourdough bakers. The Sourdough Workshop presented by Dr. Fawn Shaffer and her Juice Plus team not only shared the steps of baking the perfect loaf of sourdough but also asked only that those taking part bring a large mixing bowl and spoon as they provided the ingredients and guidance.

The majority of the now accomplished bread makers brought relatives and friends with them as they laughed and shared tips, successes and even temporary failures during the process. As the class came to an end however all participants left with a bowl of dough ready to be prepared and baked at home.

The group stayed in touch over the weekend through texts and pictures, still sharing their processes with everyone in the group.

In addition to getting their start on sourdough break Dr. Shaffer and her team spoke on gut health and what helpful benefits can be achieved by getting their gut bacteria on a healthy path.

The program’s success made a near future return a must and something that the Renovo Library has already gotten underway, with the date to be announced soon.
