Obituary – John T. “Jack” Shaffer

John T. “Jack” Shaffer, age 63, of McSherrystown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 8, 2024 at his home. He was the loving husband of Dolores M. (Shanebrook) Shaffer; together they shared 36 years of marriage.

 Jack was born in Renovo, PA on July 20, 1961 and was the son of Quentin and Cecelia (Kennedy) Shaffer. He graduated from Bucktail High School Class of 1979 and worked for Penn Township Sewer Authority in Hanover, PA until his retirement in 2023. Jack was also a parishioner of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in McSherrystown, a member of Citizens Hose Company in South Renovo, United Hook & Ladder in New Oxford, the New Oxford Social Club, and a past Asst. Chief and life member of S.A.V.E.S. in Hanover.

 In addition to his loving wife Dolores, Jack is survived by his children Nicholas Shaffer and wife Jessica of New Oxford and Amanda Shaffer of McSherrystown; his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Emily, Lillian, and Harper; his siblings Philip Shaffer and wife Marg of Elizabethville and Joyce Leonard and husband Dick of McSherrystown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Mary Kaye Boyd and his in-laws Francis and Patricia Shanebrook.

 Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jack’s Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third St.., Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Richard Lyons as celebrant. Interment will be held privately at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Cemetery in Bonneauville. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344 and on Wednesday from 10:00AM – 11:00AM prior to the Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

 The Shaffer Family would like to thank Dr. Joyce Huang & Staff of Cancer Care Associates of York, Dr. Denise Miller and Dr. Shelby Bare of Hanover Family Practice, and Dr. Armit Patel of OSS for the kind and compassionate care they provided to Jack.
