Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony To Unveil Lock Haven’s New Kid-Designed Playground at Hoberman Park Saturday, August 3, 2024

LOCK HAVEN— In a heartwarming effort to ensure that every child has access to a place to play, the City of Lock Haven, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Municipal League and national nonprofit KABOOM!, is building a brand-new, state-of-the-art playground designed by local kids and constructed by members of the community who’ve volunteered to lend a hand on Thursday, August 1, Friday, August 2, and Saturday, August 3, 2024.

The community playground building at Hoberman Park on Prospect Street is in full swing, having begun on Thursday and continuing through Saturday, August 3. Volunteers prepped the site and will continue to build on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday will be dedicated to the main playground building process from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the help of neighbors, project partners, and professional playground installers from Landscape Structures, Inc.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will cap off Saturday’s event and unveil the new park at approximately 2:30 p.m., celebrating the collective effort and community spirit that brought the project to life. Members of the community are invited to see the playground’s transformation at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and hear from Mayor Joel Long, John Brenner, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Municipal League, and other local residents who will be present to share their insights at the ceremony.

This initiative aims to alleviate playspace inequity—the unfortunate reality that many children do not have the opportunity to play at a quality playground. The goal is to increase access to high-quality playgrounds to ensure that all kids can experience the many physical, social, and mental health benefits of having a high-quality space to play.
