Obituary – Beverly Mae (Kunes) Doebler

Beverly Mae (Kunes) Doebler, 91, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Haven Place, Lock Haven.

Born in Howard on May 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. Kunes, Sr. and Alice E. (Hinton) Kunes.

One September 1, 1961, while a member of Blanchard Church of Christ, she married the love of her life, Michael L. Doebler, who preceded her in death on October 29, 2021 after 60 years of marriage.

Beverly attended Howard Elementary School until her family moved to Martins Grove, Beech Creek in 1944.  She then attended the Hubbard & Quay Schools and graduated from Lock Haven Senior High School in 1951, where she played basketball and softball.

Beverly was employed by Gearhart Herr Insurance Company for 50 years, from 1951-2001.

She was a member of Belles Springs Golf Course since 1971.  She was Ladies’ Golf Chairman for approximately 15 years, Ladies’ Club Champion two years, and Ladies’ Senior Mixed Club Champion and Champion in “Best-Ball.”  She had three Hole-in-Ones and five Eagles at Belles Springs as well as one Hole-in-One and one Eagle at Clinton Country Club.

Beverly and her husband joined the Flemington Church of Christ on January 1, 1966.  She was involved with choir, Youth Group and assisted the Sunday School Superintendent.

Beverly is survived by several nieces and nephews: Kim Kunes (Cindy), Toby Kunes (Linda), Michelle Spearly, DuWayne Kunes, Debra (Charles) Mitchell, Steven (Valerie) Kunes, Daniel (Nicole) Kunes, Barbara (Ronnie) Young, Kathy Doebler and Tom (Sharon) Doebler.  She is also survived by several great nieces and great nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel H. Kunes, Jr. of Howard and Richard A. Kunes of Beech Creek.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 1 PM at Flemington First Church of Christ, 714 Canal St., Mill Hall with Rev. Mark Riley officiating.  Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.

Friends and family will be received at the church on Monday from 12 Noon until the time of the service.
