Obituary

Howard Lee Winner, 79, of Mingoville passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born August 2, 1943 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Thelma M. Gross Winner.

Howard was a 1961 graduate of Williamsport High School.

On December 15, 1989 in Centre Hall, he married his love, the former Valerie Jean Cuba, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage.

Early on, Howard worked for Bobbie Brooks, American Color & Chemical and Hammermill Paper Co. before being employed by Corning, where he served as the Melting Supervisor, until his retirement. 

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, attending Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lock Haven as well as a member of the Bellefonte Elks.

In his younger years, he loved hunting and caving.  More recently, he was an avid fisherman, spending many early mornings at the Howard Dam.

Howard enjoyed photography.

In addition to his wife, Valerie Winner, he is survived by two sons, Mark C. Winner of Arizona and Brent R. Winner of Missouri; a step-son, Scott Bratton of Mingoville; a sister, Joan (Donald) Burleigh of Williamsport; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1 PM at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington at Rev. Tim Boger officiating.

Memorial contributions in Howard’s name may be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
