Kira Rosamilia named Downtowner of the Year

LOCK HAVEN, PA — Kira Rosamilia was applauded as Downtowner of the Year for 2021-22.
The Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven honored her during the club’s awards dinner, held at Stella A’s in January.
Rosamilia is a powerhouse of positivity as Downtown Lock Haven Inc.’s manager. She has planned, organized and run event after event, drawing people to the city’s shopping district. Her fun videos have also made the downtown a destination on social media.
As downtown manager for the past 17 months, she has carried out new, successful ideas, like the Pets in the Park banners. This project sold out, she reported, and another round of banners may be in the works soon.
She’s already planning another Easter event this year, and everyone will want to take note of the next Sip and Shop evening, set for Friday, Feb. 10. Stores will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. and offer snacks or drinks to shoppers.
Downtown Rotary gives the Downtowner of the Year Award annually, to the person in the community who best demonstrates the spirit of Rotary while working to benefit the shopping district or the entire city. The club was proud to give the award this year to Kira, especially since she is a club member.
Rotary President Marianne Lotfi presented her with a plaque, then was surprised with an award of her own — Rotarian of the Year. She earned it by living the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and doing outstanding work for the club in at least one of Rotary’s avenues of service. She has been a club member for only four years and this is her third year as president.
The club members gave 1,023 volunteer hours to Rotary during the 2021-22 year — not counting the hours of service they gave to other good causes.
Also in 2021-22, the club made its annual donations, contributing $400 each to five organizations for a total of $2,000. The Rotarians chose to give to the YMCA Pool Project, Roads to Peace (Clinton County Women’s Center), Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank, the Salvation Army food program, and Haven Cupboard which supports Lock Haven University students with financial struggles. The money comes from community support of Rotary projects.
In addition, the club awarded its two annual scholarships to graduating Central Mountain High School seniors.
Amanda Galentine received the Roberta Way Memorial Award of $1,000 given by the club and supported by the family of Roberta Way.
Micah Walizer received the club’s scholarship of $250 for a member of Interact (the high school Rotary club).
Downtown Rotary gathers Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. in Poorman Gallery, 352 E. Water St., followed by the weekly meeting at 5:30.
