Word of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it” (Psalm 139:6). What is this high and wonderful knowledge that David wrote about? It is the knowledge of God.
The Lord searches us and knows us. (V. 1)
The Lord knows when we sit down and when we stand up, and understands all of our thoughts. (V. 2)
The Lord is acquainted with all of our paths and all of our ways. (V.3)
The Lord knows our every word and every thought. (V. 4)
Paul wrote about both the wisdom and knowledge of God in Romans 11:33. They are deep and unsearchable.
Because of his high and wonderful knowledge of him, David wanted the Lord to search his heart and his thoughts. He wanted the Lord to show him any wicked ways in him. (Psalm 139:23, 24)
J. Edwin Orr wrote the following based on those words:
“Search me, O God, and know my heart today; Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray: See if there be some wicked way in me: Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free.”
It is the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses us from every sin. (I John 1:7)
