Wildcats bop Shamokin, play Selinsgrove Wednesday for PHAC title
COAL TOWNSHIP, PA – The stage is set for a PHAC Division 1 showdown in Selinsgrove on Wednesday. The Central Mountain baseball team warmed up Tuesday with a 13-2 win at Shamokin, a game in which Coach Mike Kramer used 17 players and 12 of them contributed hits.
Junior Dallas Alexander got the call on the mound and went 6.2 innings before leaving on the pitch count rule. He struck out 12 Indians, walked one and gave up two runs, only one earned. Gabe Johnson came in to get the final out with a strikeout.
Meanwhile the Wildcats pounded out 15 hits, led by senior Cayde McCloskey with a homerun, double and three RBIs. Aaron Miller had two singles and two RBIs and Levi Schlesinger came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with two singles and an RBI. Johnson chipped in with a double and an RBI and singles came from Clayton Culvey, Cru Stover, Brady Myers, Elek Fravel (with two RBIs), Chase Brush, Connor Foltz, Gardy Fravel and Braylen Corter.
Central Mountain is now 13-1 in league play, 14-4 overall. Selinsgrove is 14-0 in the conference and 16-1 overall. The Wildcats get back on the bus Wednesday to take on the Seals and will need to sweep both games, completion of a suspended tie game from earlier in the season in Mill Hall, then the regularly scheduled game. Anything less than a sweep would give the Seals the title.
Meanwhile the Wildcats know they have earned the number one seed as they prepares to defend their District 6 Class 5A title next week.
Monday of this week was the cutoff date to determine the Districts’ 6-8-9 playoff standings and they showed the Wildcats at number one, followed by Brashear of Pittsburgh (6-4), DuBois (8-8) from District 9 and Hollidaysburg (4-12) from District 6.
The district-posted playoff schedule, subject to change, shows a semi-final contest for Central Mountain in Mill Hall against Hollidaysburg on Monday, May 23, game time 4 p.m. and the championship tentatively scheduled for PGN Field in Altoona on Friday, May 27.
