Strong Altoona team downs Lady Wildcats in soccer
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat soccer team met up with a tough Altoona side (13-4) on Saturday night and fell to the Lady Mountain Lions by a 5-0 score.
The Lady Wildcats spent most of the evening chasing the ball and trying to withstand the attacking pressure of the visiting team. The first half ended with Altoona putting four goals in the back of the net. The second half was a bit more organized and the Lady Wildcats were able to hold the visiting team to one goal.
Lady Wildcat Head Coach Ryan Veltri said it was a game that took specific defending principles and organization to not allow a team who has scored many goals this season too many chances on goal. “The second half proved that with a bit of luck and some defensive tactics, the Lady Wildcats can play with some of the best teams in the area. The next step in the process is learning how to take care of the ball when we have it, moving the ball forward and generating an attack on goal.”
The junior high team had an opportunity to play under the lights at Malinak Stadium, DuBois scored two goals but the Lady Wildcats looked excited and played hard. Coach Veltri said with minimal games this season, “The Little Lady Cats have shown improvement this season and are developing good soccer habits! Looking forward to the future as they move up in the next few years.”
