Williamsport downs CM girls’ soccer

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat soccer team hosted the Williamsport Lady Millionaires in a make-up match on Wednesday and the visitors went home with a 6-1 win.

The Lady Cats chased the Millionaires from the opening minutes and couldn’t put together the “little things” to keep the visiting team from penetrating the home side defensive third and goal. It didn’t take long for Williamsport to get on the board; their senior striker converted her fiftieth career goal and added a few more as the game went on. The half ended with a three goal lead by the visiting team leaving the home side scratching their head.

The second half was similar to the first, Williamsport found the net three times as the Lady Cats couldn’t keep up with the run of play. Winning fifty-fifty balls, completing passes, movement on and off the ball and decisions all played a factor in the game. With twenty five minutes left in the game, a spark was lit and the home team started to take care of the ball. The right type of passes were played, the work rate and a competitive edge led to a goal for the home side. The ball found its way through the Williamsport defense and the Lady Wildcats were able to string some passes together resulting in a ball from Jaz Anderson to Halle Lodek who blasted a ball past the keeper into the back of the net for a fantastic finish.

Afterwards Head Coach Ryan Veltri said, “The hope after tonight’s game is that the Lady Wildcats learned a valuable lesson about never giving up, playing to the last whistle and working hard as a team to see a game out. It’s hard to take a lot away from a game were the scoreboard is so lopsided but if one thing can be addressed, it has to be the never give up mentality that is deep within the Lady Wildcat tradition. Creating a culture that plays until the final whistle with integrity, commitment and pride, says a lot about the future of a program. That was displayed tonight, a total team effort.”

Next up for the Lady Wildcats is a road trip on Thursday for the third game in as many days to DuBois. Kick-off is at 6 p.m. for Varsity and JV  to follow.
