Frank F. “Jack” Hanobic, Jr.
Obituary
Frank F. “Jack” Hanobic, Jr., 73, of Hyner passed away Monday, June 28, 2021 surrounded by his family at his home.
Born June 2, 1948 in Renovo, he was the son of the late Frank “Henny” and Phyllis M. (Forbes) Hanobic, Sr.
He was a 1966 graduate of Renovo High School. Jack went on to play basketball at Mansfield University before earning his teaching degree from Lock Haven State College.
On August 22, 1970, he married his best friend, the former Jo Ann Rosamilia, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.
Jack served as a sixth-grade teacher at Renovo Elementary School for 36 years before retiring in 2006.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Renovo as well as the Sons of Italy and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
Jack was a life guard at Hyner Run State Park for over 25 years and also at the Western Clinton County Recreation Authority, where he served as the former president.
He was the Athletic Director at Bucktail Area High School, retiring from the position this year.
Jack loved sports – whether it was playing football, basketball or baseball as a child; being involved with the Midget League programs; coaching or refereeing basketball; or cheering on Penn State.
He was an avid fisherman, loved cruising and vacationing at the beach. Most cherished by Jack, though, was the time he spent with his grandsons.
Jack, following in his mother’s footsteps, lived his life for others and his community. Through his many years of teaching and involvement with different sports, he left an impact on countless lives- many of whom referred to Jack as a “father figure.” His countless hours of devotion to his community led the Western Clinton County Recreation Authority gymnasium to be named after him as well as the basketball court floor at Bucktail Area High School being completed in his honor.
In addition to his wife, Jo Ann Hanobic of Hyner, he is survived by three children: Kathleen (George) Kalafut of Hyner, Jessica (Charles) Newlen of Lock Haven and David Hanobic of Springfield, VA; his sister, Mary Ann Richardson of Montgomery; his sister-in-law, Gina Brooks and brother-in-law, Joseph Rosamilia, Jr.; three grandsons: Peyton Newlen and Ethan and Quentin Kalafut; several nieces and nephews: Christina, Briana, Tom, Joseph, JR, Michael, and Kim; and his extended family, Kerry Schindler, Carrie Friese, and Courtney and Adelyn Newlen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 1 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 925 Huron Ave., Renovo with Rev. Fr. Joseph Orr officiating. Private interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hyner.
Friends and family will be received at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745 on Friday from 6 until 8 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Western Clinton County Recreation Authority, or an organization of your choice.
