Mary Alice Frantz, Dec. 13, 1950-June 15, 2021
Mary has left this planet for a new adventure after a nasty battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loving family and friends in her last days.
Mary was born in Chambersburg, Pa., to Alfred and Jean Frantz; the second daughter in a family of five siblings.
Mary received an undergraduate degree from Lock Haven University and a master’s degree in special education from Bloomsburg University. She taught for 25 years and helped innumerable students reach goals far beyond expectation.
Mary was a tie-dye artist and colored the world with “Contrary Ms. Mary’s Tie Dye” creations. She was a founding member of the Folk Collective and Fly by Night Costumes.
Mary was also a proud and active member of a motorcycle club known as The British Embassy. And we cannot forget that Mary also found time during her summers off from teaching to follow her band, The Grateful Dead.
After her retirement from teaching, Mary was a cook for The Salvation Army and worked as an ombudswoman for senior care. Mary was all about helping others.
In her spare time, Mary was quite the adventurer — traveling in the United States and internationally; and, of course, she delighted in her visits to various nudist camps. Mary was also a master gardener and a fabulous mother to her canine children.
Mary was compassionate, funny — a true free spirit, who enjoyed life to the fullest.
Mary’s loving family — Tina, Jane, Nancy and Allen; along with her niece, nephews, cousins, godchildren and countless numbers of friends will never forget her.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Clinton County Humane Society or to the Lock Haven Salvation Army.
