Obituary

Franklin D.R. “Moose” Lyons, 87, of Castanea went to be with his Heavenly Father while surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, May 13, 2021.

Born January 30, 1934 in Curtain, he was a son of the late James Homer and Mary Irene (Long) Lyons.

Moose attended Bellefonte High School.

He proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer from 1955 until being Honorably Discharged in 1963.

In 1959 he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy May Sipes with whom he shared 21 years of marriage before her passing in 1980.

Over the years, Moose was employed by various companies including Standard Lime Products, Carlin Coal Company, Claster’s Building Materials, the Pennsylvania Fish Commission and Cerro Metal Products for more than 35 years.

While roller skating, Moose met his love, Linda, whom he married on March 3, 1995.  Together, they shared 26 years of marriage.

Moose was Methodist by faith.

He was a member of the Liberty Township Sportsmen’s Association.

In his younger years, he could be found racing at the local dirt tracks.

He was a true outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish as well as going to camp.  He also enjoyed landscaping and caring for his and his neighbors’ lawns.

Moose was known for his holiday decorations.

He liked to watch NASCAR races.

Most important to Moose, though, was his family- especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Linda R. (White) Lyons of Castanea, he survived by his son, Steven (Tina) Lyons of Zion; two daughters, Marlene (William) Major, Jr. of Castanea and Brenda Fenstamaker of Lock Haven; three siblings: Molly Ruth (Lyons) Kern of Mifflintown, Clara Mae (Lyons) Nilson of Pittsburgh and Harold Leroy Lyons of Milesburg; two brothers-in-law, Harold and David Sipes, both of Snow Show; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Dorothy Lyons, he was preceded in death by a son, Greg Mitchell; three brothers; and two sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 7 P.M. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa 17745 with Pastor Kathleen Danley officiating.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home from 5 P.M. until the time of the service.

Private inurnment with Military Rites will take place at Schenck’s Cemetery, Howard.

Memorial contributions in Moose’s name may be made to the funeral home to offset final expenses.
