Words of Grace – Sept. 18, 2014
Jesus “is Lord of lords, and King of kings” (Revelation 17:14). His name is written, “King of kings, and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16).
When Jesus the King comes in the Second Coming to “sit upon the throne of his glory” (Matthew 25:1), he will invite his sheep to come into the kingdom prepared for them, saying: “For I was a hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: I was naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me” (vs. 35, 36).
When asked to explain this, the King shall answer: “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (v. 40).
Those who have received Jesus will also receive those who belong to Jesus. How we respond to their needs is a true indication of how we have responded to the Lord Jesus.
“He that receiveth you receiveth me,” Jesus said, “and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me” (Matthew 10:40).
To describe those who refused to help the needy (Matthew 25: 42-46) M. Lunn writes:
“I was hungry, and you formed a humanities club to discuss my hunger. I was naked, and in your mind you debated the morality of my appearance. I was sick, and you knelt and thanked God for your health. I was lonely, and you left me alone to pray for me.
“You seem so holy; so close to God. But I’m still very hungry and lonely and cold.”
