KCSD Board Addresses Academic Progress

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Keystone Central School Board held their monthly work session and board meeting Thursday evening at the Central Mountain High School.
During the work session, the CMHS Student Government offered a video presentation from a program the students developed for mentoring younger students about avoiding the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco as well as the prevention and elimination of bullying. Tracie Christensen of MacElhattan who has become a regular attendee of recent board meetings, requested the board adopt a regular agenda line item in regards to academic concerns and advancement. Christensen, mother of three KSCD students, became concerned with PSSA test results recently and is seeking clarification and improvement to the district’s test results for all students as well as academic progress.
Following a rundown of agenda items, the board adjourned and convened an executive session that lasted one hour.
Upon return, the board returned, re-opened the meeting. Board member Charles Rosamilia made a motion to approve all remaining items on the agenda. Board member, Tom Shafer seconded the motion. The board approved all the items 7-0 which included:
• Approved the 2014-15 School Calendar.
• Approved 2013-14 General Advisory Committee for the Career and Technical Education.
• Snow makeup day for Jan. 7 will be Jan. 20.
• Second reading of Policy 805 Emergency Preparedness.
• Second reading of Policy 904 Public Attendance at School Events
• Second reading Policy 909 Municipal Government.
• First reading Policy 625 Procurement Cards
• Approved payment of bills for Dec. 2013 and Jan. 2013.
• Approved the request to adopt Resolution 064certifying they Keystone Central School District will not increase taxes above the state cost index for 2014-15.
• Approve the Contract of Services between PA-Educator.net and Keystone Central School District in the amount of $675 for the three month period of April 1, through June 30, 2014.
• Approved the hiring of Michael Nines as head coach of Central Mountain football.
Board member, Charles Rosamilia made a motion to add an Academic Progress line item to future agendas which passed unanimously with a 7-0 vote.
The KCSD board will meet next on Feb. 6, 2014 at the Central Mountain High School.
