Obituary – Terry E. Scanlan

Terry E. Scanlan, 70, of Lock Haven passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at his home.

Born February 20, 1953 in Salina, KS, he was a son of the late Edward and Marion “Mazie” (Bender) Scanlan.

Terry was a 1970 graduate of Lock Haven High School and then earned his Certified Electrician Certificate.

In 1973, he married his love, the former Loretta Tyson, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

Early in life, Terry worked at IGA and Big N.  He then was employed at Hammermill Paper Co., Centre Lime & Stone Co., Graymont, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. and finally First Quality Tissue, retiring in 2019.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, attending St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Terry was also a longtime member of the Elks.

He was a history buff, especially enjoying WWII vintage aircrafts and coin collecting.

Most cherished, though, was the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Loretta Scanlan of Lock Haven, he is survived by his children: Sheila (Stephen) Sechrist of Jersey Shore, Shane H. (Agnes) Scanlan of Dunnstown and Joshua Scanlan of New York; a daughter-in-law, Samantha Scanlan of Beech Creek; a brother, Randy (Sue) Scanlan of Jersey Shore; a sister, Brenda (Dennis) McDermitt of Dunnstown; and 10 grandchildren: Shane P., Spencer and Issy Scanlan, Loretta, Joshua and Rocco Van Well, Trinity and Rosetta Sechrist, and Drake and Gage Scanlan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Scanlan in 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven with Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating.  Private burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday from 5 until 7 PM, with a Vigil at 6:45, at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington.
