Fire Damages First Ward Apartment Building
LOCK HAVEN – Firemen from Lock Haven, Dunnstown, Flemington, Mill Hall and Jersey Shore responded to a Friday morning structure fire at a multi-unit apartment building on E. Bald Eagle Street in Lock Haven.
City Fire Chief Norm Wolfram said the blaze, reported at 9:33 a.m., spread quickly through the attic above the units at 643, 645 and 647 E. Bald Eagle Street. He said the first four firemen on scene responded with air packs and were able to contain the blaze as additional firemen responded . Wolfrom said all the responders did “a wonderful job” in knocking down the fire. It was declared under control in about 45 minutes. Flames could briefly be seen burning through the roof of the two-story concrete block structure.
Wolfram said the fire was discovered by a resident of the unit at 645 who smelled smoke and called in the alarm. He said the point of origin was a second floor bathroom at the 643 address. He said there was flame, smoke and water damage to the attic area of two of the units and water damage to the third unit.
Wolfrom said damage was considerable but did not offer a dollar estimate. He said a state police fire marshal is expected on site early next week to seek a cause. A total of seven people in the three units have been displaced by the fire. All those home at the time escaped safely. The chief said the units are owned by the out-of-town Orbach Group, its location listed as Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
