Muncy 10-runs Bucks in six innings
By Bees O’Brien
MUNCY- Bucktail had high hopes entering their road trip to an 0-2 Muncy team. The Indians had been hit hard with losses throughout their roster and had struggled thus far with losses to Montgomery and St. John Neumann. They are also struggling in a delayed game due to darkness against a winless Sugar Valley team.
The Bucks began the game disastrous by allowing 5 errors that resulted in Muncy collecting a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
All 5 of those miscues came during starter Keller Friese’s time on the mound. Friese pitched just 32 pitches in his third of an inning on the hill. Friese allowed just 2 hits and a single earned run.
His replacement, Austin Mosher came in for 3 and 2/3 innings of work and allowed no runs in 3 of those innings, but Bucktail also played perfect defense during that stretch with not a single error committed.
The Bucks’ offense began to get going in the top of the fifth inning. Teagan Stone started the Bucks off with a single and Friese’s second triple of the afternoon scored Stone and Gavin Pick. Friese then found the plate on an Ethan Kalafut RBI double to shrink the Indians’ lead to 6-3.
Muncy began to catch on to Mosher on the mound in their half of the fifth inning. The Indians plated 3 runs on Mosher and 3 on Xander Shearer in relief to see their lead swell to 12-3. Muncy tacked on their final run on Bucktail’s seventh error of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to implicate the 10-run rule at 13-3.
Friese led the Bucks with a pair of triples. Kalafut and Shearer added doubles and Teagan Stone collected 2 hits in the loss.
The 1-3 Bucks will now host Benton on Tuesday in Farwell.
