Wildcats Edged in Hard-Fought Effort with Millionaires, 74-70

Central Mountain Now Prepares for PHAC Playoffs

WILLIAMSPORT – It was a nail-biter right to the end as the Wildcats come up short against Williamsport, 74-70.

Central Mountain had a very slim 1 point lead at the end of the first quarter, 19-18. Then in the second quarter, the Millionaires tipped the scales to outscore CM 23-21 for a precarious 41-40 halftime lead.

Williamsport came out and kicked it up a notch in the third quarter, outpacing the ‘Cats 25-16 to open up a 66-56 lead with 8 minutes remaining. Once again, the momentum shifted in Central Mountain’s favor as they outscored the Millionaires 14-8 in the final period, but the clock ran out before the Wildcats could close the gap for a win.

Matt Storeman set the pace for the Wildcats with 26 points that included 10-14 effort from the penalty stripe. Collin Jones scored 20 points and hit 4-5 free throws in the process. Tanner Lavelle scored 7 with Jake Skrtich dropped in 6 points and Tyler Adair had 5 points on the night. Trevor Hanna, J.T. Pentz and Isaiah McCann contributed 2 points each.

The loss takes CM to 11-9 overall, 8-3 in the PHAC for the regular season and will next face No. 1 seed, Danville in the first round of the PHAC tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018 for a 6 p.m. tip off at Shikellamy High School. No. 3 seed, Mount Carmel will face wildcard entry, Loyalsock at 7:30 p.m. with the winners to meet at Shik on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. for the PHAC championship final.
