CM Stumbles on the Road 54-46

cm-basketballCOAL TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain boys’ basketball team had hoped to take the next step in a first-ever Heartland Conference crown when they traveled to Shamokin. The Indians had other ideas toppling the the league leaders, 54-46.

The game was fairly tight in the first half with Shamokin holding a 23-18 lead at halftime and the theme continued in the third quarter where Central Mountain edged the Indians 13-12 to narrow the deficit to 35-31 in favor of the hosts.

It was the fourth quarter where the Indians managed just enough offensive push by hitting 11-of-13 free throws and 4 field goals to outpace the Wildcats 19-15 for the 54-46 win.

The loss put the ‘Cats at 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the PHAC. Central Mountain will need now need to win out and hope for a little help to reach the conference title outright.

Three Wildcats hit double figures against Shamokin, Brody Baker, 13 points with Justin Neff and Wyatt Bumbarger both scoring 10 points each. Kyle Everhart and Matt Storeman had 4 points each with Trevor Hanna scoring 3 and Colin Jones contributing 2 points.

Central Mountain will travel to Montoursville on Monday, Feb. 6 and then host Shikellamy on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
