cm-baseballSUNBURY – The Central Mountain baseball team won a key Heartland Conference game over Shikellamy on Wednesday, a 13-2 five inning win at the home of the Braves.

The win sets up a first-place showdown at Mifflinburg on Friday, both Wildcat teams atop the league standings, Central Mountain at 7-2, Mifflinburg at 5-2.

Kenny Heverly continued his mastery of the Braves Wednesday, hurling a complete game, giving up two first inning runs, only one of them earned. He ended with a 2-hitter, this on top of a 1-hit 10-0 shutout win over Shik earlier in the month.

Central Mountain spotted Shikellamy two first inning runs and then went to work. Solo home runs from Toner Corl and Talon Falls tied the game at 2-2 after three. The Wildcats batted around in putting up a 9-spot in inning four and coasted home.

Heverly was backed with a 15-hit attack, led by Wyatt Koch’s 3-for-3 day with a homer, Corl finishing 3-for-4 with his homer and three RBIs and Falls 2-for-3 with a homerun, double and two RBIs. Zach Skrtich had a 2-for-3 game with an RBI and Isaac Porter added a double.

Heverly struck out five, walked one and hit one Brave batter. His performance lowered his earned run average to 0.55 on the season, good enough for second in the conference. The leader is Mifflinburg sophomore Dillan Weikel. The 6-0 right-hander is expected to start against Central Mountain Friday; he has 52 strikeouts in 34 innings, giving up just one earned run for a 0.20 earned run average.

Before Central Mountain (7-3 overall) travels to Mifflinburg Friday, they are scheduled to host Montoursville at Mill Hall Community Park on Thursday.
