Little Crickets 1-1 at Regionals

SCRANTON – After cruising through the West Branch League playoffs, the Beech Creek Junior Legion baseball team moved into the regional playoffs in Scranton starting Saturday and took a hit.

In the opener for the Crickets they faced a familiar foe in the Bloomsburg Junior Legion team. The Crickets faced Bloomsburg earlier in the regular season and defeated them. But this time the outcome was not so favorable.

Landon Breon tossed a two-hit complete game for the Crickets, however they lost 1-0. Breon struck out seven while walking three batters. The loss put them in the losers’ bracket where they would play Central from the York league on Sunday.

Offensively, Brandon Miller had two singles while Alex Garbrick, Ethan Watkins and Cole Reeder each contributed a single.

Fortunately for the Crickets, their bats came to life on Sunday, Beech Creek routing Central 15-7. Beech Creek jumped out to a 14-1 lead after 2 innings and never looked back.

In the first inning the Crickets scored four runs off of doubles by Talon Falls and Wyatt Koch and singles from Mitch Smith and Landon Breon. In the second inning they scored ten more runs.

Leading the way offensively in the second were Koch with a triple, Falls with a double and a single, and Smith, Ethan Watkins, and Cole Reeder with singles. Watkins started on the mound for Beech Creek and pitched two innings. Connor Bauman came in to pitch the third and fourth innings and Smith closed the game pitching the last three innings. With the win, Beech Creek moves on in the regional tournament.

The Little Crickets are scheduled to play Monday at 12:30 p.m. in Scranton against the winner of the Roxborough/Northampton game. The tournament is scheduled to run through Wednesday with the winner moving on to the state playoffs.
