CHAPMAN TOWNSHIP — State police report a driver was not injured when her car hit a bear earlier this week. But she later suffered a foot injury when the bear bit her. State police said the accident occurred last Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. on the Renovo Road near Goodlings Lane.

Investigating officer Timothy Eiler said a vehicle operated by Joanne Rachau of South Renovo was eastbound on Route 120 and struck a bear which was crossing the road. The Rachau vehicle ended up in a ditch along the roadway. When the driver got out of the car and walked around the front of the vehicle to check on damage the bear bit her on the foot; the bear then got up and walked across the roadway and out of sight.

The driver Rachau was later treated for the bite at the Bucktail Medical Center.
