Lady Wildcats Sweep Shamokin
By Tom Elling
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – After a less than stellar performance at DuBois (losing 0-3), Coach Chipp McCann was hoping his team would be a lot sharper. They were. “We changed some things such as going to a ‘6-2’ offense,” McCann offered. “We don’t have the overall height that a lot of our opponents have. We had to make some adjustments.”
Those adjustments paid off as the Lady Cats secured a big lead in a 3-0 sweep of Shamokin – 25-12, 25-11, and 25-13.
Kylie Rauch (outside hitter) and Keely Rohrbach (middle blocker) dominated the net in game one. They scored with a combination of force kills and soft touches, keeping the defense off balance.
In game two, it was more pressure from that duo with a lot of help from Payton Kinley and a strong defensive performance by libero Reese Walizer. The ‘Cats won that 21-11 with a huge run to pull away.
Game three saw Katelyn Bowman, Ellen Banfill, and Cora Myers step up breaking a close game to another strong late game performance.
A lot of players got to see action perhaps a harbinger of things to come. “Each player contributed tonight,” McCann said. “We were a solid team tonight. We have some time to work on a few more things, but we get
state-ranked Philipsburg-Osceola on October 9th. That will be a real test and along with BEA, they are the two best teams we will face.”
Coach McCann expects his 10-4 team to move up in the rankings over the next few weeks, as he continues getting his team ready for play-offs.
