Curtin Village hosts Heritage Weekend historical fundraiser Aug. 26-27
CURTIN VILLAGE, PA – The community is invited to Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village Saturday and Sunday, August 26 and 27 for Heritage Weekend. Photography, genealogy, quilting, and opportunities to explore your own family heritage and capture the moment for a lifetime in a tintype photograph will be available.
New to this year’s Heritage Weekend is Victorian Photography Studio of Gettysburg, Pa., and two special exhibits. The fundraiser is sponsored by the Roland Curtin Foundation for the Preservation of Eagle Furnace, a volunteer-managed nonprofit.
The Heritage Weekend runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 27, with specific times for each activity. Guided tours will only be given on Sunday:
Mansion Tours: 2 p.m., 3 p.m. & 4 p.m.
Iron Furnace Tours: 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, August 26:
● Learn about 19th Century tintype photography and have your image captured in this Victorian art. Wet plate photographs will be taken with the mansion, as the backdrop from 10 a.m. to Noon and 2 to 4 p.m. (Registration required: curtinvillage@gmail.com) Cost. $50.
● Dave Wilson, owner of Victorian Photography, will provide a demonstration of the wet plate process from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
● Digital pop-up photography where visitors can use their own camera to take photos with the Curtin family-owned excursion wagon and former PA Governor Andrew Curtin’s carriage as the backdrop is available both Saturday and Sunday.
