LH JAMS opens three-day run on Thursday

LOCK HAVEN, PA – It’s back, the always well-received, crowd-pleasing LH JAMS, three days of music in the heart of the city, an event that draws thousands to Lock Haven.

The public event is hosted by the Clinton County Arts Council. It kicks off Thursday, a ticketed fundraising event for LH JAMS and the Jeff Gummo/CCAC Scholarship for the Arts. Free events will follow on Friday and Saturday of this week.

Thursday’s kickoff is Rockin’ the Roxy (movie theater) with York Street Hustle, Philadelphia’s premiere Motown Band which drew rave reviews in its 2021 JAMS appearance.

Philadelphia’s York Street Hustle is one of the most dynamic Motown tribute bands around. They specialize in the classic sounds of the 1960’s. Legends, like Stevie, Aretha and the Four Tops; lesser-known artists including Donny Hathaway, Arthur Conley and Betty Everett – all are given new life. With grit, sweat, and attention to detail, The York Street Hustle is the Northeast’s premier 10-piece 1960’s soul tribute. This is not your typical Motown wedding band! In a few short years the York Street Hustle has gone from filling tiny South Street bars to repeated sell outs of WXPN’s World Cafe Live. Their repertoire now spans over 80 songs including more than a decade worth of Detroit, Memphis and Chicago soul.

York Street Hustle will be preceded at the Roxy by opening act Chris Mingear, performing at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Chris explains his music here:

“The term “roots music” is tossed around a lot these days but i’d have to say that what I do definitely falls into that area. I cut my teeth on old school blues and I must say that’s where I feel the most comfortable when I have a guitar in my hands. I’ve been playing and performing for close to 40 years now in one form or another from a solo thing, to a duo with my brother, to a fairly successful band in the late 90’s in the southern California club scene. As I travel thru life I always try to stay connected to music anyway I can at this time I’m doing the solo thing again; trying to bring my take on some great songs of the past as well as tell a few of my own stories along the way.”

LH JAMS will continue with free music Friday and Saturday. Friday will see a visit from Velveeta, a longstanding Centre County party band hosting a JAMS block party from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Main and Grove Streets stage.

Saturday will see daylong free music, starting at 12 noon on the Main and Grove Streets stage and the Elks Building patio. The live music will conclude Saturday with a 7 p.m. performance on the Elks patio from the B-Street Band, a tribute to Bruce Springsteen and his E-Street Band.
