LH Women’s Track & Field Posts Solid Marks, Grabs Individual Victories

LOCK HAVEN, PA– The Lock Haven University women’s indoor track and field team was busy competing at two different meets over the last two days (Friday & Saturday, Jan. 27-28). Riyana Owens (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown) stood out yesterday and today at the Penn State National Open, and the Bald Eagles competed well Friday and today (Sat.) at the Bucknell Bison Open and Multi meet.

The Bald Eagles opened the busy weekend on Friday (Jan. 27), and it was sprint-standout – Owens, and Gwen Lloyd (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion (Towson)) who led the way.

Competing Friday at Penn State National Open, Owens continued to impress among the deep and talented field of athletes, and she continued to improve at 60 meters. The school record-holder in the event opened the day with a time of 7.67 in round one. For Owens, it marked a season-best effort and pushed her into the semifinals. In the semis, she ran another season-best with a time of 7.65. In the first round, Owens was 15th of 44 and she was 12th of 16 in the semifinals. Both times were Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying marks.

Competing Friday at the Bucknell Bison Open, Lloyd dominated her way to a victory at 5,000 meters. She topped the field by eight seconds and finished with a PSAC championship standard of 18:08.84.

On Saturday, Owens once again led the way at Penn State. She ran a sensational PSAC time of 25.22 at 200 meters and finished 15th of 22 in a stacked field.

Leading the way Saturday at Bucknell was Anna Manley (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) who posted an impressive win in the 800-meter run. Manley ran 2:20.45 and finished first of 29. The time is a PSAC championship mark and, as of press time, it marked one of the top-three times in the conference, to date.

Manley headlined the Saturday storyline for Lock Haven. After her tremendous effort in the 800, she returned to action on short rest and finished fourth in the 500-meter event with a time of 1:24.12.

Claire Hauser (Medford, N.J./Shawnee (Towson)) finished fifth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:20.63.

UP NEXT:

Lock Haven will return to action next week it what looks to be another busy weekend of competition at a pair of meets. The Bald Eagles will compete on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Utica Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational and the team is scheduled to compete on Sunday, Feb. 5 at East Stroudsburg’s DeSchriver Invitational.
