Lady Wildcats whitewash Altoona 3-0 in D6 playoff semi-final

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA- It was a District VI semi-final playoff battle. A full gymnasium with a crowd full of energy and a great student section. Central Mountain coming in at a solid 9-6 on the season. Altoona 6-9, however the Lady Mountain Lions had a win earlier this season three sets to one over the Wildcats. The Lady Wildcats would come ready to battle and take down Altoona 3-0.

Altoona started off the first set with a run on points. However, the Wildcats quickly answered taking the first set in a battle, 25-23. The Lady ‘Cats kept the momentum moving, winning set two 25-15 and set three 25-19. The seniors on the team helped lead CM to the win. Emilee Heverly, Kyleigh McDermit, and Keely Rohrbach had key plays to help get the win. Reese Walizer was masterful at the serve in sets two and three going on a run of points for the Cats’. Altoona wouldn’t go away easy as the Mountain Lions would battle and rally for points in every set.

 

Wildcat head coach Chip McCann noted afterwards that this was the best volleyball the team has played. He said, “The seniors stepped up tonight and led the team to victory. They have been our key to success. If we continue to play like tonight these girls are unstoppable.”

 

With the win the ‘Cats move into the District VI AAAA Championship game Thursday at Bald Eagle Area. The ‘Cats will take on State College 8-4 on the season. State College, the #1 seed in the bracket, had a bye Tuesday.
