Clinton Voters Favor Winners Wolf and Thompson

Hanna Unopposed for 13th Term

elect-resultsLOCK HAVEN – Clinton County more than doubled its voter turnout from last May to Tuesday and those who went to the polls were in line with results from across the state and the far-flung 5th congressional district.

County voters favored Governor-elect Tom Wolf by a 54 to 46 percent showing for incumbent Governor Tom Corbett; that was close to the statewide election night tally of 56 percent for Wolf and 44 percent for Corbett.

The pattern was similar in the congressional race where Republican incumbent Glenn Thompson compiled a 64 to 36 percent victory over Democratic challenger Kerith Strano Taylor on both the county and district-wide levels.

In Clinton County Thompson, from nearby Howard Township, Centre County, polled 5,413 votes; Strano Taylor, from Brookville, received 3,038 votes. Election night totals, districtwide, with 98 percent of the precincts reporting, showed Thompson with 111,522 votes to Strano Taylor’s 64,089.

For Thompson it was a fourth successive romp in the general election in the heavily Republican district. For Corbett his defeat was the first by a sitting governor since the law was changed to allow two terms nearly half a century ago.

State Rep. Mike Hanna (D-Lock Haven) won a record thirteenth term in the state House, unopposed for the second election in a row and a third time overall. Hanna said election night he plans to continue to seek re-election to the House in the foreseeable future.

The county voter turnout was 8,579 out of 20,388 eligible to vote; that’s a 42 percent voter turnout, compared to 17 percent in the spring.
