Obituary

Joseph Allen Coldren, 78, of Lock Haven, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022 at Promedica Jersey Shore.

Born December 9, 1943 in Sunbury, he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Nora Dietz Coldren.

Joe was a 1961 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, a 1965 graduate of Lock Haven University and later obtained his Master’s degree in Higher Education from Penn State University.

On August 20, 1966 in Doylestown, he married the love of his life, the former Mary L. Frederick, who survives.

Joe started his career in teaching at Lewisburg High School where he was instrumental in initiating their Track and Field program. He then coached Track and Field at Lock Haven University for several years before taking the job as the university’s Dean of Admissions.  Following 31 years of service at LHU, Mary and Joe relocated to California where he worked in the same capacity at California State University at Dominguez Hills for an additional 8 years.

Joe was an avid cook and enjoyed running – which was a daily routine of his late into his life.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by two children, Brandon J. (Lisa) Coldren of McElhattan and Stephanie L. (Christopher) Myers of California; a brother, Clint Coldren; three grandchildren: Blaine Counsil, Jackie Miller and Hannah Brown; a great granddaughter, Thea Counsil; and his very close niece, Margie (Russ) Holmes of Bangor.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 1 P.M. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745. Private burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 11 A.M. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Lock Haven University Athletic Fund.
