Obituary

John F. Curcio, 96, of North Bend died Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Bucktail Medical Center, S. Renovo.

Born May 23, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY he was a son of the late Anthony and Stella (Pagnotto) Curcio.

He was married to the former Anna M. Cowfer who died January 12, 2012.

John worked for Pennsylvania Rail Road, Penn Central and Conrail from 1947 -1984 retiring after 37 years.

He served in the 8th U.S.A.A.F., 458th Bmb Grp, during WWII as a Staff Sgt. completing 35 combat missions. He was then transferred to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist with forest fires in Oregon and California.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Joseph High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was instrumental in placing flags on the Renovo Bridge.

Other memberships include Son’s of Italy, V.F.W., 40/8, American Legion where he served as past commander, and past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge all of Renovo.

Surviving are two sisters Rosemary Andrus of Lock Haven and Ellen Smith of Ashburn, VA and a host of nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by a son John Anthony Curcio and a sister JoAnne Janus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 925 Huron Ave., Renovo with The Rev. Joseph Orr officiating. There will be no visitation.

The family will provide the flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Improvement Fund in his memory.

Burial will follow with military honors by the Marine Corp League at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hyner.
